[for choosing Counsellors and also, Secretary of State]

of a Senate from the County of Hancock occasioned by the resignation of Mark Sheppard also at a quarter past ten oclock this forenoon for the purpose of choosing seven Counsellors to advise the Governor in the executive part of the Government and also a Secretary of State for the current political year.

Agreeably to assignment the two Houses met in convention for the purpose of filling the vacancy at the Senate Board occasioned by the resignation of Mark Sheppard, Messrs Dunlap, Southwick, Longfellow, Rollins and Benson were appointed a Committee to receive sort, and count the votes, and having attended to that duty, reported, that the whole number of votes given was 153 Necessary to constitute an election 77 Samuel M Pond had - 74 Samuel Whitney had 75 Samuel S. Pond had 2 Sam' L. - had - 1 and there was one double ballot for Samuel M. Pond. On motion by Mr. Boutelle, the Convention declared Samuel M. Pond duly elected a Senator Yeas 85. Nays 57.

The convention, agreeably to assignment, procured to ballot for the choice of seven Counsellors. Messrs Williams, Parsons, Prime, Cobb, Hill, Evans, Cummings, Porter, Bent and Johnson were appointed a Committee to receive sort and count the votes and, having attended the duty assigned them reported, that the whole number of Ballots given by the Convention was 156
