Petition of A.B. Thompson and Robert Orr, for an alteration in the militia law, was read and referred to the Committee on militia and military affairs, Sent down for concurrence, Came up concurred.

Petition of Isaac Lane and others for an Academy in Buxton in the County of York, was read and referred, to the Committee on Literature and Literary Institutions. Sent down for concurrence. Came up concurred.

Petition of Daniel Cony and others, for a Division of the South Parish, in Augusta and the incorporation of that part lying on the East side of Kennebec River, was read and referred to the Committee on Parishes and other Religious Societies &c. Sent down for concurrence. Came up concurred -

[Order respecting the endorsement of Petitions]

On motion by Mr. Stebbins, Ordered, that any petition presented to the Legislature shall be endorsed with the name of the "person" presenting the same, unless, for satisfactory reasons, the same shall be dispensed with by that Branch of the Legislature when the same shall be first presented. Sent down for concurrence, came up amended, by striking out the word "person" and inserting the word member". Reconsidered and amendment of the House adopted.
