93. Bill regulating the payment of duties on Commissioners, was called up- The vote of 20th inst refusing the Bill a 3d reading reconsidered & the subject referred to Messrs Fessbender of Portland, Shaw of Northport & Coss of Pittston.
Ordered that the committee on New Trials be instructed to enquire as to the expediency of amending the law authorizing the sale of Ministerial & School lands in the towns within this State - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
Ordered that the committee on New Trials be instructed to enquire into the expediency of authorizing persons charged with offenses not felonious to take the depositions of Witnesses to be used in their defence in certain cases & under certain restrictions. read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.
Ordered that Messrs Fessbender of Portland, Stone of Jay & Francis of Leeds, be a Committee with such as the Senate may join to consider the expediency of causing to printed & distributed to the different towns and plantations within this State - number of copies of the Constitution of this State and the United States, and that it be enjoined by law that the same should be introduced into the public schools & used as a school book - read & passed - Sent up for concurrence.
Ordered that the Committee on State Lands be instructed to enquire into the expediency of having a quantity of their Start Lands granted & located to such towns & plantations organized within this State as have not received any of said lands for the support of schools and the ministry, as shall be proportionate tot he amount, heretofore granted to the towns for like purposes.
