Mr Cummings was charged with a message to inform the Senate of the organization of this branch of the Legislature by the election of John Ruggles Esquire Speaker and James L Child Esquire Clerk.

The Secretary of State came in and informed the House that he had laid upon the table of the President of the Senate the returns of votes for Governor received at his office, for the examination of the two branches of the Legislature.
Ordered that the Clerk of this House be requested to employ some suitable person to assist him in the duties of his office. read & passed - and Herbert T Moore of Clinton was appointed accordingly.
