State of Maine

To all who shall see these Presents,

Greeting:

[To the left is a circle with the word “Seal.” written inside, and “Albion K. Parris” underneath]

Whereas the Commissioners, appointed under and by virtue of a law of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, entitled “An Act relation to the separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts proper, and forming the same into a separate and independent State,” have, among other things, have divided and assigned to the State of Maine the sum of fifteen thousand, eight hundred and eighty eight dollars and fifty cents, to be paid in cash out of the Treasury of said Commonwealth, as appears by their report, dated the twenty fifth day of May last: And whereas the Legislature of said Commonwealth have resolved that the Governor thereof be authorized and empowered to draw his Warrant on the Treasurer for the said sum, in favor of such person as may be duly authorized by the State of Maine to receive the same, as appears by an official copy of said resolve: Therefore, that the agreement of the two States, may, in this particular, be carried into effect,

Be it known, that I, Albion K. Parris, Governor of the said State of Maine, by and with the advice and consent of the Council, have appointed Joseph Coffin Boyd, Esquire, to receive from the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or such other person as may be authorized to pay the same, the sum of fifteen thousand, eight hundred, eighty eight dollars and fifty cents, in fulfilment [fulfillment], in this particular, of the agreement entered into as aforesaid, by the Commissioners of the said States. And the said Boyd is hereby authorized, in behalf of the said State of Maine, to sign and execute all necessary receipts and discharges therefor.

Done at the Council Chamber, in Portland, this first day of July in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and twenty two.
