The committee on contested elections, who were directed to inquire if any Member is holding any office of profit under this State, contrary to the Constitution, reported that Nathaniel Mitchell Esq on of the members from Portland, is now and was at the time of his election one of the Managers of the Cumberland & Oxford Canal Lottery; but that they do not consider [underlined]that, such an office of profit, under this State as by the Constitution is incompatible with his right to hold a seat in this House - and the report was accepted.

Report of the Warden of the State Prison came from the Senate referred to the committee on the State Prison for concurrence & the House concurred

Ordered that the Senate be requested to send down to the House the Bill and accompanying document relating to a Jail at Eastport referred from the last to the present Legislature.

Ordered that the committee on the Militia and Military affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of abolishing all parts of the Militia system so far as is admissible by the the Constitution of the United States and of this State - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence, directing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of altering, or amending, the law respecting the attachment of personal property in civil actions - and the House concurred.
