Governor of the State of Maine:

To all who shall see these Presents,

Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the wisdom, Knowledge and integrity of Reuel Williams, of Augusta, in the County of Kennebec, Esquire, I have nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of the Council, do by these presents, appoint him one of the Commissioners, on the part of this State, with the powers and for the purposes mentioned in the first section of an Act of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts entitled “an Act relating to the separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts proper, and forming the same into a separate and Independent State,” passed on the nineteenth day of June A.D. 1819, to meet with Commissioners appointed by the Executive of said Commonwealth and invested with alike full and ample powers, on the part of that Commonwealth, and with them to act and divide in all matters and things falling within the powers of said Commissioners, by virtue of the law aforesaid.

To have and to hold said Office during the pleasure of the Governor and Council for the time being.

In testimony whereof, I have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the State to be hereunto affixed: Given under my hand, at the Council Chamber, in Portland, the fifteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty five; and of the Independence of the United States the forty ninth.

State of Maine.

County of Kennebec ss: On the sixteenth day of July A.D. 1825, personally appeared Reuel Williams, Esq. of Augusta in said County of Kennebec and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution of this State and a Law of the United States, to qualify him to discharge and execute the duties of the office of one of the Commissioners under the Act of Separation to which he was appointed and Commissioned on the fifteenth day of February A.D. 1825.
