State of Maine

To all Persons to whom these Presents shall come

Greeting:

[to the left is a circle with "Seal." inside it and "Enoch Lincoln” written under it]

Be it Known, That the Honorable John Holmes, of Alfred, in our County of York, on the fifteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine, was Constitutionally elected by the Legislature, a Senator, to represent this State in the Congress of the United States, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of the Honorable Albion K. Parris; according to the provisions of the Constitution.

Given under our Seal, Witness Enoch Lincoln, Esquire, our Governor at Portland, the sixteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine; and in the fifty third year of the Independence of the United States of America
