State of Maine.

To all who shall see these Presents,

Greeting:

Know Ye, That Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity ability and discretion of Peter Goulding of Perry in the County of Washington, Esquire, hath nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of our Council appointed the said Peter Goulding, Agent for the Passamaquoddy tribe of Indians, under an Act of our Legislature, passed the fifth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one.

We therefore, do hereby authorize and empower him to fulfil [fulfill] the duties of that office according to aw; and to have and to hold the same, together with all the powers, privileges and emoluments, thereto of right appertaining unto him the said Peter Goulding for the term of four years, if he shall so long behave himself well ins aid Office, unless sooner removed by the Governor and Council for the time being.

In testimony whereof, We have caused these letters to be made Patent, ad our Seal to be hereunto affixed. Witness our Governor at the Council Chamber in Portland, the first day of July, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine; and of the Independence of the United States, the fifty third.

County of Washington ss. On the sixth day of October A.D. 1829 personally appeared Peter Goulding of Perry in said County of Washington and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution of this State and a law of the United States to qualify him to discharge the duties of the office of Agent for the Passamaquoddy tribe of Indians within and for the County aforesaid to which he was appointed & commissioned on the first day of July A.D. 1829
