Governor elect, and the House concurred and the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate therewith.

Accordingly, the two branches met in convention in the Representatives Chamber, when Enoch Lincoln, Governor elect, attended by the Council, Secretary, Treasurer and Adjutant General & preceeded by the Sheriff of Cumberland came in, & took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon a discharge of the duties of his office - and the Secretary of State made proclamation accordingly - The Governor then delivered his speech which is contained in the Appendix page 231..] The Governor then withdrew together with those who attended him on his induction to office - The Senators also withdrew, and the House then adjourned until three oclock this afternoon.

Afternoon. Met according to adjournment.

Ordered that the Clerk of this House, cause to be printed five hundred copies of the Governors communication to the Legislature for the use of its members - read and passed.

Agreeably to assignment the two branches of the Legislature assembled in the Representatives Chamber & proceeded to supply the deficiencies in the Senate by ballot, in those cases where no election had been made by the people. The whole number of votes given, to fill the deficiency in the district of Hancock was One hundred & fifty three - necessary to a choice seventy seven, Joseph Shaw had one hundred and five and he was declared elected. The whole number of votes given in, to supply the deficiency in the district of Washington was One hundred & fifty nine
