178. Bill authorizing the reduction of the capital Stock of the Waterville bank, was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a 3rd reading.

Bill relating to Cathance Bridge, was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a third reading.

Petition of A. Sanboune & als for an incorporation of the Literary Fraternity of Waterville College, came from the Senate referred to the committee on Literature ect for concurrence and the House concurred.

Resolve making appropriation for expenses of the State arsenal was read a second time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.

Report of the committee to consider the expediency of enacting additional provision to prevent petit larceny & the buying of stolen goods, that legislation is inexpedient, came from the Senate accepted for concurrence and the House concurred.

Resolve in favor of the Trustees & overseers of Bowdoin College came from the Senate passed to be engrossed as amended - and the House refused to recede from their vote of 11th instant indefinitely postponing this Resolve - The question was taken by yeas & nays and decided in the negative as follows - yeas 39 nays 93 [see appendix page 294.]

The committee on engrossed bills reported as duly engrossed Bill additional act to provide for the carrying into effect certain stipulations in the act for erecting the District of Maine into a separate State which was passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.
