Wednesday January 31st 1827

Met according to adjournment.

Bill for the preservation of the Beeches & Salt Marshes in the town of Wells, came from the Senate amended as on sheet annexed marked A for concurrence - and the House concurred.

Bill to incorporate the Proprietors of the Falls Sliuce Way, taken from the last years filed of the House, was referred to the committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & Canals. Sent up for concurrence.

Mr Emerson & Mr Morris were added to the committee on the petition of the Selectmen of Gray.

Petition of Hiram Holmes for authority to change his name, was read & referred to the committee on change of names.

Bill to incorporate the Buxton Manufacturing Company was read a 3rd time and passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Resolve establishing the seat of Government, was again taken up - and the question in order was on the motion of Mr Carpenter to strike out the words " Augusta in the County of Kennebec" and insert the words "Bangor in the County of Penobscot" and the motion was lost. Mr Cobb of Waterville then moved an amendment by striking out the word "Augusta" & inserting "Waterville and the motion was lost - the question was taken by yeas and nays and decided as follow yeas 64 nays 74. Several other amendments were proposed and lost. The Resolve then passed to be engrossed & the question was taken by yeas & nays as follows yeas 83 nays 57 [See appendice page 220]. Sent up for concurrence.
