55 Wednesday January 16th 1828

Order of the House of Representatives appointing Messrs Russell, Leach and Hubbard with such as the Senate may join to inquire into the expediency of so altering the existing Law requiring the superintending School committee in each town and plantation to visit the schools of each District at the commencement and close thereof, as to dispense with their visiting said schools unless directed by the town or plantation to which they belong at the annual meeting after the choice of town or plantation officers with leave to report by bill or otherwise came up for concurrence and the Senate nonconcurred and referred the same to the committee on Literature &c . Sent down for concurrence. concurred. [order of the H. appointing a com. to inquire into the expediency of altering the Law respecting school committees]

" appointing Messrs Barrett, Cobb of D and Cobb of W. with such as the senate may join be a committee to inquire into the expediency of revising the Law regulating the solemnization of marriages with leave to report by bill or otherwise came up for concurrence. The Senate nonconcurred and referred the same to the committee on the Judiciary. Sent down for concurrence. concurred. "That the committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of providing by Law that the Treasurers of the several counties shall publish annually in some newspaper a detailed statement of all the receipts and expenditures of their respective counties during the year next preceeding the time of such publication. "That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so altering or amending the Law relating to the punishment of crimes that imprisonment for life be substituted for punishment by death were severally read and passed in concurrence.
