103 [Petitions referred] certain expenses as warden of the State Prison, was read and referred to the Joint Standing Committee on the State Prison in concurrence. [Fire Department Portland] An Act to establish a fire department in the Town of Portland, was read a second time, and referred to Messrs. Megquier, Hinds and Dole. [An Act to assess a tax on Dogs, referred] An Act authorizing the Town of Wells to assess a Tax on owners of dogs, was read once, and Tomorrow at eleven o'clock assigned for a second reading and the same was referred to Messrs. Goodwin, Steele, & Gardner. [An Act concerning Bastard children] An Act additional to an Act for the maintenance of Bastard children, was read a second time and passed to be engrossed as amended. Sent down for concurrence. [Report concerning State Printing] Mr. Davee, from the Joint Select Committee appointed to contract with some person to do the printing for the State the ensuing year, made a report, which was read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred. [Report on an order relating to Ministerial and School funds] Mr. Megquier from the Committee on the Judiciary, reported that Legislation is inexpedient on the order directing said Committee to inquire as to the expediency of amending an additional act to provide for the sale and distribution of ministerial and school funds, read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred. [Bill to incorporate the Town of Amherst] A bill to incorporate the Town of Amherst was read a second time and passed to be engrossed as taken into a new draft in concurrence.
