Bangor Augt 1st 1862 Hon. I Washburn Jr Dear Sir Mr. Edwin B Patten of this city is very desirous of some place in the army and would prefer the position of Quarter Master, I have know Mr. Patten for a long time and ( ? ) pleasure in stating that from such ( ? ) and from the testimony of others who are better judges than myself.
