Bangor July 30 1862 Gov Washburn, Dear Sir - I address you in behalf of Richard Kelleher a member of Co ( I ) 2d Me Regt, now sick in hospital at Annapolis - Mr K was for a long time assistant Clerk of the Courts under Bro Westin - has often been in my employ in my office ,I know him well -he left a sallory of $ 600 per year-where he gave entire satisfaction he is a young man of good character, good habits, well educated- & worthy in a subjects- he is now sick & unfit for duty = his fellow countryman feel ( & I think greatly) that he should have a better place, it is wished by his friends that he may be permitted to have a furlough - secure ( ? ) his health- & when again fit for duty, have a place assigned him commenceate ( ? ) with his merit -
