9 Afternoon Met according to adjournment.
Ordered that Messrs Lowell of Machias Knowlton of Moneville and Swett of Prospect be a Committee to wait on the several Clergymen who reside within the towns of Augusta and Hallowell and request them to officiate as Chaplains to the House in rotation according to seniority during the present session.
Ordered that the Clerk be authorized to contract with some suitable person for an Assistant Clerk of this House at price not exceeding two dollars per day and the Clerk appointed Asaph R Nichols, who entered upon his duties accordingly.
