A communication was received from the Clerk of the Courts in Hancock county in compliance with an order of the 12th instant which was read and on motion was laid on the table. Communications from Charles Peavey ad Nathaniel Clark signifying their acceptance of the Office of Councillors to which they had been elected by the two branches of the Legislature - came from the Senate and were read and sent up. A message was received from the Senate by their Secretary, proposing a convention of the two Houses to meet forthwith in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of administering the oaths of office to Charles Peavey and Nathaniel Clark Councillors elect, requesting the concurrence of the House - and the House concurred - and their Clerk by message communicated the same. Agreeably to assignment the two Houses met in convention when Charles Peavey and Nathaniel Clark, Councillors elect came in and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the constitution to qualify them to enter upon the discharge of the duties of that office - and the Convention separated. On motion of Mr. Gallison, Ordered, that the Committee on Finance be instructed to inquire into the expediency of enacting a law making it the duty of the assessors of several towns and plantations in this State except the town of Portland to make out and deliver to the respective collectors of taxes and Surveyors of Highways in said towns and plantations the usual tax bills and warrants for collecting the same on or before the tenth day of June in each year.
