20 Afternoon Met according to adjournment An order came from the Senate for concurrence, appointing Messrs. Megquier, Merrill and Goodwin with such as the House may join a committee to inform the Governor that both branches of the legislature are proceeding upon public business and are ready to receive any communication he may be pleased to make to them and the House concurred and Messrs. Clifford of Newfield, Washburn of Livermore, Watts of St George, Phelps of Fairfield and Libby of China were joined. Sent up. A message was received from the Senate proposing a convention of both branches of the legislature tomorrow at eleven o'clock in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of choosing seven Councillors to advise the Governor in the Executive department of the Government for the present year and also to choose a Secretary of State - requesting the concurrence of the House therewith - and the House concurred and the Clerk by message acquainted the Senate therewith. On motion of Mr. Washburn of Livermore, Ordered that the Committee on Elections be instructed to inquire and report to this House whether Charles Jarvis the member elect from Ellsworth &c has taken and subscribed the oath required by the constitution to qualify him to discharge the duties of a Representative in this House since he tendered to the Governor and Council his resignation of the office of County Commissioner. The Secretary of State came in and laid upon the Speakers table a written message from the Governor and informed the House that the documents referred to in the same, have been laid upon the table of the President of the Senate - which was read
