232 choice of a Major General of the eight Division of the Militia of this State on the part of the House and the Clerk by Message acquainted the Senate therewith. Agreeably to assignment the House on their part, proceeded to the choice of a Major General of the Eighth Division of this State Messrs. Woodman of Buxton, Bartlett of Norway, Cram of New Sharon, Woodman of Peru, and Whitney of Berlin were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes, therefor; who having attended to the duty assigned them, reported, that the whole number of votes given in was one hundred and fifty five - necessary to constitute a choice seventy eight. Samuel P. Strickland had one hundred and thirty three and was declared elected - and the Clerk by Message acquainted the Senate therewith. A Message was received from the Senate by their Secretary informing the House that the Senate on their part had made choice of Samuel P. Strickland as Major General of the Eighth Division of the Militia of this State. Resolve for the purchase and distribution of Williamson's History of Maine was read a second time and passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate - sent up. Petition of Enoch Marshall for allowance to Samuel Sevey, was read and referred to the Committee on Claims - sent up for concurrence. Resolve authorizing the Treasurer to receive certain moneys in behalf of the State - for the benefit of Warren Hathaway, were read a second time and passed to be engrossed - sent up for concurrence.
