My dear Sir -

I have been indeavouring to sell property since writing you last, and have some offers, - but none of cash - I cannot find any person who will talk about trading unless it is by exchange. - A man here has a house almost new the bills of which amounted to $2500 and the lot $800 - he offered it to me for a farm I have in Parsonsfield and to pay me $500 in two years. - - but the situation of this house will not do for me to live in, - and it will not - rent for so much as the farm produces and the farm is groing better, and the house work by [?] is exposed in case of invasion - -

I am exceedingly perplexed - my friends at Saco have been so dissatisfied at my leaving them, that they will not do me any favour. - and some of them try to injure me - - I do not disserve such returns. - I have all my days, put myself out all times to aid my relations and friends, and [struck through] when they needed it. - - and always made arrangements to meet my own obligations. - - and my present ones I had made such arrangements as did, at the time appear amply sufficient for the intended purposes, - but accidences accrued, as I [inserted] have so often stated to you, which it was imposable to foresee and provide against. - provided the times were as heretofore I should not need
