Bill to repeal an Act respecting the anchoring of Vessels on the Fishing grounds near the Mananus and Monhegan Islands; came from the House referred to the next Legislature. Read once and referred in concurrence.
On motion of Mr Williamson. Ordered, that when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn, it adjourn to meet at two oclock this afternoon.
The Resolve relative to South Carolina, were taken up, and the consideration of amendment offered by Boutelle resumed. Mr Williamson offered an amendment to said amendment, by striking out all after "Resolved," and insert; "That the spirit and tone of the Presidents recent Proclamation, relating to the extraordinary proceedings of south Carolina, meet our warmose approbation, and we approve of the principles and policy avowed therein, as expounded not in accordance with the federal doctrine of consolidation, but with the democratic doctrine of State rights, and a limitation of action of the Federal Government to the powers expressly delegated to it by the Constitution, and in accordance with the several messages of President Jackson to Congress, and the uniform tenor of the acts of his administration; and in support of all constitutional means adopted by him to preserve the Union, we tender him our undivided support On motion of Mr Boutelle, the question was divided, and the question of striking our being ordered to be taken by yeas and nays, was decided
