Bangor June 23 1862 Col J.L. Hodgdon Dear Sir I [take?] course to call your attention to, and interest you in Joseph W. Chamberlain now serving as Corporal in Co A 2nd Maine Regiment At the time of the first call by the President for troops for 3 months he was in my employ and engaged for one year at $2[ ] day but his patriotism forbade his staying at home when his country needed his services and he was among the first that enlisted from this city and has remained with his Regiment ever since He has been in all the Battles and [ ] in which his Regiment
