9 On motion of Mr. Abbot of Vassalborough Ordered that Messrs. Abbot of Vassalborough Gowin of Bradford and Robinson of Bethel be a Committee to contract with some suitable person to assist the Clerk of this House in the discharge of the duties of his office, at a sum not exceeding two Dollars per day.

On motion of Mr. Woodman of Wilton, Ordered, that Messrs. Woodman of Wilton, Phelps of Fairfield and Brackett of Falmouth be a committee to contract with some suitable person to perform the duties of Doorkeeper and page of this House.

On motion of Mr. Jewett of Portland, Ordered that Messrs. Jewett of Portland Seave[?] of South Berwick and Jarvis of Ellsworth be a Committee for the purpose of drafting Rules and Orders for the Government of this House together with a list of the names of the members their respective places of residence and the numbers of their seats.

The Secretary of State came in and informed the House that he had as required by the Constitution laid before the Senate the Returns of votes for Governor for the present year given in the several towns and Plantations within this State and returned to his office for the examination of the two branches of the Legislature.
