Mr. Pierce from the Committee on Literature and Literary Institutions, reported leave to bring in a Bill on petition of Seth Hatch, praying for an Academy at Kennebunk, read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.
On motion of Mr. Bradbury, ordered, that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to enquire into the expediency of repealing an act passed June 28, 1820 establishing the duties to be paid by certain officers therein named, or that part of said act, which requires Justices of the Peace to pay a duty of Five Dollars for their Commission. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.
On motion of Mr. Cobb, ordered, that a message be sent to the Governor and Council informing them that Roscoe G. Greene, having been duly elected Secretary of State, has signified his acceptance and is ready to take and subscribe the oaths necessary to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of his official duties, which message was delivered by the Secretary.
The Committee on engrossed bills reported as truly coped from the original, Bill to increase the Capital Stock of the Maine Bank, and the same was passed to be enacted.
Bill to incorporate the Trustees of Union Academy, was read once and tomorrow at ten o'clock assigned for a second reading.
