Dear Father,
I herewith inclose a Tax Sale Certificate of a tract of land formerly owned by Stuart + called "Otter Hole" --
At the time this sale took place I was at beaufort, but Lt.Alfond was on duty at Hilton Head. We agreed that he would bid of the land and we would buy it in Co -- He purchased in Co. with Lettell + Caldwell - Caldwell afterwards wishing to sell out we purchase his share for $600 + his [inserted] third was turned over to me, so that Alfond and I each have a certificate for one third -- costing us about $471 each -- We consider our shares worth at least $3000 each -- An adjoining Plantation that was bid off for about $2000, has been since sold for $10,000 --
