170 Tuesday, February 4, 1834

Order from the House instructing the committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of altering or amending the law securing to mechanics and others payment for their labor and materials expended in erecting and repairing houses &c to report by Bill or otherwise; read and passed in concurrence.

Order from the House appointing Messrs. Pillsbury, Kimball of Gilead, Hill of Waterborough, Russ of Whiting, Chase of Frankfort, Crane Worster, Keene and Soule a Committee with such as the Senate may join to take into consideration the expediency of passing a law that the meetings for the choice of Town Officers shall be held on the same day in the several towns and plantations within this State; with leave to report by Bill or otherwise, read and passed and Messrs. Farnham and Howard are joined in concurrence.

Order from the House instructing the Committee on Banks and Banking to inquire whether any Banks in this State have forfeited their charter by demanding and receiving in loans of money, a percentage over & above that prescribed and regulated by the existing laws and also whether any Banking Corporation has openly or covertly set at defiance either the letter or spirit of the laws regulating the same, and that the Committee have power to send for persons and papers; read and passed in concurrence.

Order from the House appointing Messrs, Hubbard of Berwick, McCrate and Bronson a Committee with such as the Senate may join, to inquire into the expediency of amending an act entitled "An act for the limitation of actions real and personal, and of writs of error" approved March 19, 1821.
