Jan 15th 1865 Lieut Wm K Bickford [William K Bickford] started home on a furlough. Corpl M W Whitten [Melvin W Whitten] started to maine [Maine] on recruiting service. We had a general inspection at 10 oclock A.M. Oren E Walker [Orrin E Walker] returned from hospital

16th No news of importence

17th A fair day. Corpl G F Esterbrooks [George F Estabrooks] started home on a furlow of 20 days. Corpl J[?] Ingragaham is promoted to Sargt Pri Wm L King promoted to Corpl. Official orders has been read that Fort Fisher was taken by assault on the 16th inst. We have been looking for this good news for a long time.

18th We have drill twice a day, and dress parade every afternoon. The commissioned officers are all absent form my company and I am left in comand.

19th Verry cold and cloudy. Sargt F M Rogers [Frank M Rogers] has started to maine on a 20 day furlough. Moses Black and Nevel Smith was here to visit me today.

20th Looks like storm. Two drills today.
