Governor Washburn,

My Dear Sir,

I find I have to encounter an unexpected degree of opposition in the Faculty of the College. They are unwilling to give me any sort of countenance in the matter. But I feel that I must go, & I trust that the representations they propose to make to induce you to withhold my commission, will have no more weight with you than with me. I feel it
