Mr Kenneth Roberts Kennebunk Beach Maine

Dear Mr. Roberts:

I am writing this to confirm the, to us, very sad loss of the manuscript of Arundel. We truly grieved, because we used it frequently, calling it to the attention of people who we knew would be interested in it, and allowing them to look it over, to their great joy.

I am afraid there was a little misunderstanding about its being in a vault, because we used it so often that we kept it in our little locked closet, right at the lending desk.

Nevertheless, we are very glad indeed to know that it is where people can see it, and where it has, of course, a far wider use than it could have here. We miss it like a long lost friend, or a dog gone to glory. Perhaps some day you will feel moved to let us have another manuscript of one of your works, and should you do so, we can assure you that it will nowhere be more appreciated, or more discriminatingly used.

With best wishes, MAINE STATE LIBRARY BY TCS.m
