Dear Sir

I wish to call your Excellencies attention to the claim of Sargeant John Sawyer of Company K. Second Maine rigement for promotion.

It appears that two vacancies exists in said Co K of Commissioned Officers, and it seems to me as a matter of right that the said John Sawyer should fill one of them. He is personally known to me as a young man of excellent character and talants, and every way suitable for such a position.

He enlisted when the rigiment was first raised, has participated in every Battle in which the Rigiment has been, has been twice wounded, once in the hand and once in the foot, and could have been discharged for either if he had desired it. In refference to myself I
