Dear Sir
Your esteemed favor of the 9th came to hand this P.M. & contents noted--Please accept my sincere thanks for the offer tendering me as Lt. Col. of the 16th Regt. & which I have decided to accept; trusting at the same time that I may at all times be able to fulfill the duties devolving upon me, in a manner satisfactory to your Honor & those who have seen fit to use their influence in my behalf.
I shall immediately tender my resignation as Captain to report myself at Augusta as early as circumstances will allow.
