that you would use your influence with the Governor to procure him a commission in the 16th or some other Regiment when a vacancy may have occurred. He can if desired procure recommendations from any or all the line officers in his Regiment.
I write this believing that if the Governor was acquainted with his merit he would grant him
a commission and that Chamberlin will make an
officer that will be an honor to the State.
