Custom House Castine March 6th 1863 Sir I have just received a letter from Richard Tibbetts a seargent in Company B [?] Maine Regiment, now at Falmouth, requesting my influence in obtaining lieutenant commission Mr Tibbetts was a member of my old company (which was the first in the state to march from home, in the defense of our Country) He has been in all the battles up to the time the army left the peninsula, and has proven himself a good soldier. I know him to be loyal and true to the government. He writes me that he wants a commission to serve in one of the [?] Regiments I know him well and can recommend him to you as a good faithfull
