La Grange March 23rd 1863

Dear Sir

Enclosed you will please find letters from Leonard D. Carver and others desiring his promotion & transfer,

Said Carver was the first man in this town that volunteered when our Government called for help, he is truly lawyal, truthfull, hopefull, and courageous, and in my judgment is just the man to inspire his command with hope & courage, and therewith success, he was admired by all his brave comrads for his cool undaunted courage and manly deportment in our first Battle (Bull Run) and has gained in their esteem ever since

Now Sir, if you will please use your influence with his Excellency the Governor, for Carvers transfer & promotion as he desires, you will oblige your many friends in La Grange, and do your Country a true service

If you think it proper, and I think it would be, you may show his Excellency the Governor the letters that I send you in relation to Leonard D. Carver

Respectfully Yours

Wm. Barton
