General I have the honor to call your attention to the fact that there is a vacancy in the medical department of the regiment, caused by the promotion of Ast. Surg. A.D. Palmer, which it is very necessary to have filled at once by by a competent Surgeon. I have understood unofficially that Surgeon J. F. Pratt was appointed asst. Surgeon, but he never reported or was mustered into the regt.

Surgeon S.B. Morrison is and has been unfit for duty for some time, and has applied for leave of absence. Asst. Surgeon J.T. Main left the regiment on the 19th day of Feby. on sick leave of absence for twenty days, which has been extenced, and it is uncertain when he will return, so you will perceive the necessity of having a Surgeon of "ability and experience" appointed at once.
