Know all men by these presents that I, John F. Mines, of Bath, in the State of Maine, Chaplain of the 2nd Maine Regiment of Volunteers, do hereby constitute and appoint George M. Bartholemew of Hartford in the State of Connecticut my true and lawful agent and attorney, for me, and in my name and stead so receive from the Government of the State of Maine, or the proper Executive Department thereof, whatever salary may be due me from the said State, for services as Chaplain, from the date of my commission (May 4th 1861) to the time of my being mustered into the service of the United States - viz; May 28th 1861.

And in case of the receipt of said salary as above contemplated, by my said Attorney, I do hereby authorize and empower him to execute for me, and in my name, place, and stead, all needful receipts and acquittances on account [?] to the same effect as if I were present to execute the same in my [?] proper person.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22nd day of March 1862.
