      I have the

honor to address you in behalf of Levi Gordon of Company C 2d Regt Maine Vols. who was wounded on the 27th day of August last in one of the battles in Virginia, and is now in the U.S.A. Hospital, Chesnut [sp: Chestnut] Hill Philadelphia. I understand from him that the term of service of his Regiment in nearly expired and he is very desirous to be transferred to the Hospital in Augusta and requests me endeavour to obtain the necessary orders for such transfer. The Surgeon General has authority to transfer to their own State all soldiers wounded in previous battles, and that an application to the Secretary of War is necessary in the last named case.
