[page 20] say that the medicine was to be administered by you as nurse? A. That I should have charge of all the medicines Q. Those were the written orders? A. Yes, sir. Q. You say they were sent in by the attendants and otherwise? A. Yes, sir, medicines that I knew neither the want of nor action of, nothing about them, in fact, until I learned them accidentally in the halls. Q. You indicated in an answer to Mr. Eaton, I judged, and I ask that I may be informed correctly, that there was unkindness in some cases of attendants towards patients. Did you mean that? A. No, sir I did not. Q. You mean to say they were kind? A. I said I thought they were generally kind. That is, I think they are always kind, but neglectful sometimes. I dont think there is an attendant there who would intentionally abuse a patient Q. But you think they neglect them? A. Yes; I dont think it could be otherwise with the number of hours they are on duty and the number of patients to each attendant. They must be overworked. I dont see how it would be possible for them to endure it and attend to them as I consider they ought to be attended to.
