40 the next morning at sunrise. So us 8 fellows was the last to go over the river and when we came over the guards on this side sat out to arrestt us for they thought we was rebel spies for all of our men had gone over some 6 or 7 hours before.

May 29th At noon we had orders to go back over the river and stand Picket guard I went on last at 5 oclock PM and was not relived till 6 oclock the next morning. This makes 2 days and nights that I have been without eny sleep.

41 May 30th We are still on Picket guard and I am very tired and sleepy. no rebels in sight.

May 31st We was relived this morning and went back over the river pretty well tired out having been 3 days and 3 nights without eny sleep except abought 2 hours the 3rd night. I layed down on the ground and slept sweetly while the rain was pouring down in torrents.
