[page 359] Q. Did men in your ward go out to work with the others that worked on the farm? A. There were not many that ever went out. When I worked in the lower there were not many that were capable of working out. And when I went up stairs it was different; the most of the men that worked they had out in the chapel. Q. Are you so familiar with that hospital as to tell whether there were ever patients taken out from your ward, when in your judgement they were unfitted to work? A. I dont know what you would call unfitted to work. A man in feeble health? Q. Yes, sir. A. Well, no, I dont know. They are all feeble I think; they are sent these to be doctored, I dont know of anything else. Q. You know that there is a law requiring this detective committee to go there by day and by night? A. Yes, sir, I think I have read some thing to that effect. Q. And that they are expected to go in without the knowledge of any body? A. I never knew them to come in when I was there without my knowing it.
