[page 367] Q. Were you one of those who kept concealed from the superior officers any neglect of duty that occurred on the part of another attendant? A. Yes. I considered it none of my business to do any thing of the kind. I considered that there were the supervisor and three doctors there, and if they could not find out such things themselves I would keep it to myself. Q. That was a part of your system of performing your duties as an attendant was it? A. Yes, sir. q. And were there others who did the same thing some time? A. I dont know. Q. Was that the understanding among you? A. I do not speak for anybody but myself. Q. You spoke of abuses. Do you state to the Committee upon oath that you now remember any case where a patient was struck by our attendant during the four years and a half you were there? A. No particular case except Mc'Carty; I dont know as he was struck; I dont recollect as he was; but I could tell you just the same as the other gentleman.
