Head Quarters 2nd Maine Vols Camp Near Harrisons Landing Va July 14, 1862

General Jno. L. Hodgsdon

General

As the president call for three hundred thousand men troops will necessarilly promote officers and men

in the older regiments to positions in the new,

I respectfully submit my name for your favorable consideration for appointment in some of the new regiments as Lieutenant. I would not call your attention to this matter except that I am not of the regular line of promotion and that no alterations have occurred in the company to which I belong since its organization 15 months ago, besides the cases for meritorious conduct are so numerous in the "2nd Maine" it would be impossible to reward all - Considering your time at the present moment so taken up with official business, I omit to send recommendations from officers here, and friends at home of which their is nor would be any trouble in obtaining a bountyful supply, fully believing that [?] and fitness for such positions will receive your attention. I will however here state that Col. Roberts would endorse a thing of this kind, and other officers in the 2nd Maine. Hoping to receive a favorable communication at your earliest convenience I remain Very respectfully Your Obt. Servt W. Henry Sanger Regimental Clerk 2nd Maine
