pickett duty at the time and was talking with the Field officer of the day. It occurred at midnight. The officer of the Day was knocked from off his horse but not seriously injured one of my Co. was thrown down and injured by the lightening the same night. Other men at various points were more or less effected by it. It was a very dark night but for the space of half an hour the flashes were so rapid that a person could read during the whole as well as by daylight. Three different showers from different points of the compass converged over head. Few persons ever heard so heavy thunder or so vivid and continuous lightening
