ENGINE (Empowering New Generations for Improved Nutrition and Economic Opportunities) was a US Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded project implemented in Ethiopia from 2011 to 2016. ENGINE used a multisectoral approach to achieve the goals articulated in the Government of Ethiopia's National Nutrition Plan, among which is improvement in the dietary intakes of women and preschool-aged children.

The objectives of the present research are 2-fold

) to document trends in women's dietary diversity (WDD) and

) to identify factors associated with dietary diversity for women.

Descriptive statistics and multivariate, pooled analyses were calculated.

Results indicate that WDD was low, ranging, on average, from 3.0 to 4.0 (out of a possible 10). Across the time points covered reflecting pregnancy and 1-y postpartum, only ∼13% to 17% of women met the Minimum Dietary Diversity Score for Women (MDD-W).

Using UNOS-STAR data, we compared outcomes of pediatric patients undergoing LDLT and SLT using LLS grafts. The baseline characteristics and post-operative outcomes were compared between groups. Actuarial graft and patient survival were analyzed with Kaplan-Meier curves. Between 2010 and 2019, 911 pediatric LT were included in the analysis (LD graft group, n = 508, split graft group, n = 403). LD graft recipients spent more time on the waitlist vs. the split graft group (60 (22-138) days vs. Didox nmr 46 (16-108) days; p = 0.007). LD recipients had a lower rate of graft failure, found in 9.8% of patients compared with 14.6% in the split graft group (p = 0.02). HAT was the most common graft failure cause, with similar rates. Graft and patient survival at 1-, 3-, and 5-years was comparable between LDLT and SLT. In subgroup analyses, patients with biliary atresia, those ≤10 kg or ≤10 years old receiving an LD graft showed improved graft survival. In conclusion, LDLT is associated with a lower rate of graft failure in pediatric patients. The use of LLS regardless of the type of donor is a safe way to facilitate access to transplantation to pediatric patients with acceptable short and long-term outcomes.We report a case of rapidly progressing hepatocellular carcinoma after administration of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors to treat rheumatoid arthritis. A 76-year-old man was referred to our Department for pain in multiple joints and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Blood tests revealed elevated hepatobiliary enzymes, but various tests revealed no signs suggestive of malignancy. He took baricitinib for 2 months followed by tofacitinib for 4 months. After that, he was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma based on imaging findings and elevated tumor markers. This case showed the possibility of a causal relationship between JAK inhibitors and malignancy.Bladder masses are an infrequent occurrence rarely suspected in cases of pediatric hematuria. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors represent one differential diagnosis that is difficult to characterize as purely benign and should therefore be given special consideration. Although uncommon, this is an important entity to recognize for potential bladder sparing and minimally invasive surgical approaches.

Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to mitigate COVID-19 can impact the circulation of influenza viruses. There is a need to describe the activity of influenza and its subtypes during the COVID-19 pandemic to aid in the development of influenza prevention and control measures in the next influenza season.

Data from pathogenic surveillance performed by the Chinese National Influenza Center from January 2016 to August 2021 were extracted and stratified by type and subtype for northern China and southern China. The distribution of influenza activity and circulating subtypes were described during the COVID-19 pandemic, and data from 2016 to 2019 were used for comparisons.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in large outbreaks in jails and prisons in many settings. Herein, we describe an outbreak of SARS-CoV2 infection in a prison in Alicante, Spain. Prior to January 2021, testing for coronavirus infection was not widely available in jails and prisons nationwide. Offering of testing services in Spanish carceral facilities, coincided with the deployment of COVID-19 vaccination in the larger community. However, COVID-19 vaccine role out of incarcerated individuals occurred later during the deployment plan. With the identification of the initial cases of this outbreak, two units of the facility were assigned for population management one for inmates with confirmed infection by positive PCR detection of SARS-COV-2 infection in nasopharyngeal swabs. Inmates with confirmed exposure and thus considered close contacts were place in a second isolation unit. Functional quarantine was employed in some instances. A reactive testing strategy was instituted at baseline, and at 7 and 14 days of nasopharyngeal specimens by PCR. A total of 1,097 nasopharyngeal specimens were obtained for PCR testing during the outbreak, which lasted a total of 80 days between the index case the end of medical isolation of the last case. A total of 103 COVID-19 cases were identified during the outbreak. Of these, three inmates developed severe manifestations requiring hospitalization, and one died. Our interpretation is grounded on the idea that our health basically depends on factors that go beyond our organism. In this sense, we stress the radical importance of circumstances to ethically assess an action, in the current pandemic context. Moreover, due the centrality of the SDs in our bioethical assessments-that implies that our health does not exclusively depend on our choices, behaviors, and lifestyle-we can affirm that we are not entirely responsible for our wellness or diseases. As health depends on economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors, we argue that the analysis of personal responsibility facing personal health status should receive further consideration. In this sense, following the "social connection model," we stress the importance of the concept of "shared responsibility" in collective decisions if we make many decisions collectively, we are also collectively responsible of these decisions. Furthermore, to responsibly tackle the social inequalities that are the underlying cause of disparities in health outcomes, we propose two main strategies based on the Capability Approach 1. empowering the individuals, especially the most vulnerable ones; and 2. designing preventive policies and interventions that provides an opportunity to address the disparities moving forward. This will help us going beyond the "individualistic medical ethics paradigm" and integrating our concept of health with social factors (e.g., the SDs), based on a more relational and interdependent anthropological thought.

To analyze the impact of COVID-19 on Italian corneal transplantation from March-2020 to February 2021 compared to the same timeframe of the 2 previous years, in order to identify potential consequences of a global pandemic on corneal procurement and transplantation services during this time.

This national, multicentric, retrospective cohort study evaluated data collected from 12 (100%) Italian eye banks from March 2020 to February 2021 (Group A). The number of tissues collected, distributed and discarded were compared with the same time-frame of the 2 previous years 2019 and 2018 (group B and C, respectively). The different type of transplants performed were reported. Data were analyzed using a non-parametric Friedman test.

Here, we report a case with mild renal insufficiency and proteinuria as the main symptom and present a summary of the clinical characteristics of ON along with a review of the literature on OMN.Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by heterotopic ossification (HO) of the skeletal muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. Patients often experience limitations in jaw function due to HO formation in the maxillofacial region. However, no studies have yet analyzed the age of onset and location of HO and the type of restrictions it may yield in the maxillofacial region. The aim of this study was to evaluate all existing literature on the site of onset of HO and associated functional restrictions of the jaw. To this end, a scoping review was performed focusing on limitations of jaw movement in FOP patients. The literature search resulted in 725 articles, of which 30 articles were included for full study after applying the exclusion criteria. From these articles 94 FOP patients were evaluated for gender, age, presence and age at which HO started in the maxillofacial region, location of HO, whether HO was caused spontaneous or traumatic and maximum mouth opening. Formation of HO is slightly more common in female patients compared to male patients, but the age of HO onset or the maximum mouth opening does not differ between genders.
