matory cardiomyopathies.Exploration of community structures, habitations, and potential plant growth promoting (PGP) attributes of endophytic bacteria through next generation sequencing (NGS) is a prerequisite to culturing PGP endophytic bacteria for their application in sustainable agriculture. The present study unravels the taxonomic abundance and diversity of endophytic bacteria inhabiting in vitro grown root, shoot and callus tissues of two aromatic rice cultivars through 16S rRNA gene-based Illumina NGS. Wide variability in the number of bacterial operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and genera was observed between the two samples of the root (55, 14 vs. 310, 76) and shoot (26, 12 vs. 276, 73) but not between the two callus samples (251, 61 vs. 259, 51), indicating tissue-specific and genotype-dependent bacterial community distribution in rice plant, even under similar gnotobiotic growth conditions. Sizes of core bacteriomes of the selected two rice genotypes varied from 1 to 15 genera, with Sphingomonas being the only genus detected in all six samples. Functional annotation, based upon the abundance of bacterial OTUs, revealed the presence of several PGP trait-related genes having variable relative abundance in tissue-specific and genotype-dependent manners. In silico study also documented a higher abundance of certain genes in the same biochemical pathway, such as nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization and indole acetic acid production; implying their crucial roles in the biosynthesis of metabolites leading to PGP. New insights on utilizing callus cultures for isolation of PGP endophytes aiming to improve rice crop productivity are presented, owing to constancy in bacterial OTUs and genera in callus tissues of both the rice genotypes.There is currently limited research and a lack of consensus on emotional processing impairments among adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The present pilot study sought to characterize the extent to which adults with ASD are impaired in processing emotions in both words and pictures. Ten adults with ASD rated word and picture stimuli on emotional valence and arousal. Their ratings were compared to normative data for both stimuli sets using item-level correlations. Adults with ASD rank-ordered stimuli similarly to typically developing individuals, demonstrating relatively typical understanding of emotional words and pictures. However, they used a narrower range of the scales which suggests more subtle impairments affecting emotion-processing. A non-concurrent multiple baseline design with 8 children with ASD in the age of 8-12 was used. CBT did not have the hypothesized additive effect on Mindlight in decreasing anxiety of children with ASD. Instead, multiple participants already experienced a decrease in anxiety during the Mindlight sessions. Yet, several participants did experience a stabilization in anxiety at a low level during the CBT sessions. For now, it can be concluded that CBT does not have an additive effect on Mindlight.Social isolation is a powerful predictor of poor mental and physical health, while social support has been shown to be protective. The ways in which social support is provided may confer differential benefits. This research examines relationships among types of social support (nondirective, directive, emotional and instrumental), social isolation, and mental health outcomes (anxiety and depression) in a convenience sample of adults with common health problems recruited from all email accounts of a university. A survey distributed to a university-wide listserv that included faculty, staff, and students yielded an analyzable sample of 65. T-tests compared levels of anxiety and depression between socially isolated and non-socially isolated people. Regression models tested main effects of type of support as well as their interaction with social isolation. Levels of anxiety and depression were significantly higher among socially isolated people. When social support was factored in, the relationship between social isolation and anxiety was reduced, as was the relationship between social isolation and depression, suggesting that social support mediates these relationships. Furthermore, social isolation moderated relationships between some types of support and mental health outcomes. The association between greater nondirective emotional support and decreased anxiety was more pronounced among those who were socially isolated. Greater nondirective emotional support was significantly associated with decreased depression among socially isolated people, but the relationship was nonsignificant for those who were not socially isolated. Likewise, greater directive instrumental support was associated with lower depression only among those who were socially isolated. These results suggest that in addition to social support itself, the type of support may be important in reducing anxiety and depression among people who are socially isolated.

This study was aimed to investigate the clinical and molecular epidemiology of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) isolated from Chinese children and determine the possible relationship among the accessory gene regulator (agr) groups and genotypes, as well as among the virulence genes and disease types.

S. aureus strains were isolated from Beijing Children's Hospital between October 2017 and October 2019. The isolates and 19 virulence genes were characterized using multi-locus sequence typing, staphylococcal protein A (spa), staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec, and agr typing.

A total of 191 non-repetitive S. aureus clinical isolates were divided into 33 sequence types (STs), 18 clonal complexes (CCs), and 59spatypes. ST59 (39.8%), t437 (37.7%), and agr I (84.8%) were the predominant types. CC59, CC25, CC22, CC951, CC8, and CC398 belonged to agr I. CC5 and CC15 were assigned to agr II, and CC30 was characterized as agr III. CC121 was classified under agr IV. The eta, etb, and bbp genes were more prevalent in agr IV (P < 0.001 for each), while tst was more prevalent in agr group III compared to the other groups (P < 0.001). Nearly all isolates that harbored lukS/F-PV belonged to agr I (P = 0.005). However, the correlation between disease types and agr groups was not significant (P > 0.05).

Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is a common form of glomerular nephropathy in children, with an incidence rate of 1.15-16.9/100,000 depending on different nationalities and ethnicities. The etiological factors and mechanisms of childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome have not yet been fully elucidated. This review summarizes the progress of the immunopathogenesis of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome in children.

We developed an automated Western immunoblotting as a complementary serologic assay for COVID-19. The JessTM Simple Western system, an automated capillary-based assay, was used, incorporating an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 lineage 20a strain as the source of antigen, and total immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, IgA) detection. In total, 602 sera were tested including 223 from RT-PCR-confirmed COVID-19 patients, 76 from patients diagnosed with seasonal HCoVs and 303 from coronavirus-negative control sera. We also compared this assay with the EUROIMMUN® SARS-CoV-2 IgG ELISA kit. Among 223 sera obtained from RT-PCR-confirmed COVID-19 patients, 180/223 (81%) exhibited reactivity against the nucleocapsid and 70/223 (31%) against the spike protein. Nucleocapsid reactivity was further detected in 9/76 (14%) samples collected from patients diagnosed with seasonal HCoVs and in 15/303 (5%) coronavirus-negative control samples. In the subset of sera collected more than 2 weeks after the onset of symptoms, the sensitivity was 94% and the specificity 93%, the latter value probably reflecting cross-reactivity of SARS-CoV-2 with other coronaviruses.
