Augusta Nov. 19th '62

His Excellency Gov. Washburne

Dear Sir

In relation to the Corcoran Co.- I forgot to tell you , or had not time this morning, that 9 of my men had been transferred to the 17th Regulars and that two or three others were absent without leave. The transfer to the Regulars I could not prevent, and a few of the remaining ones may not be willing to go with me -- choosing some other regiment.

Ought I in those cases to lose the credit of obtaining the men? They are in the U.S. Service wherever they go, and the object is not to get men for a particular Regiment but for the service.

Col. Roberts may refuse to recommend me unless I actually carry with me into the 2d Reg. 25 or 30 men. Now ought I not to be entitled to a commission for the number of men
