Bangor Aug. 8 1862

Gov Washburn,

Dear Sir --

I take the liberty to address you in behalf of Capt. A.P. Wilson of Comp'y (F) 2d Maine Regt, I have known Capt W. from his boyhood we attended the same school lived in the same school district & he attended school kept by me -- his character has ever been above reproach -- he is a man of intelligence -- methodical & industrious -- though a laboring man & no politician he as, from the start, been a thorough zealous republican-- duly imbued with the spirit objects& aims of our party -- the best of good mankind-- He entered the army, among the first, from a sense of duty -- and his superior officers-- his associate officers-- of his rank & all officers & privates have concurrent testimony
