General I have the honor to acknowledge rect of your communication of the 4th inst, in relation to Second Lt. J.B. Forbes of this regiment.

Lt. Forbes was reported "absent with leave" from Sept 10 1862

On the 3rd day of October 1862 he was "dropped" from the rolls of the regiment as a deserter in compliance with General Orders N. 892 Adj. Genl. Office War Dept and as required in orders a communication was forwarded through the proper channels giving a statement of facts in his case.

I enclose copy of an order received by me Dec. 4 1862.

Had I not supposed you would have received notice of all orders of this character I should have forwarded a copy to your office.
