Finally, results of this study could also suggest that studied phenolic compounds have no role in the C. rudis larvae resistance in this stage of murtilla domestication process.In Rwanda, information on antibiotic resistance in food animals is scarce. This study was conducted to detect and phenotypically characterize antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli and Salmonella in feces of cattle, goats, pigs, and poultry in the East province of Rwanda. We isolated non-type-specific (NTS) E. coli and Salmonella using plain culture media. LY3039478 In addition, we used MacConkey agar media supplemented with cefotaxime at 1.0 μg/mL and ciprofloxacin at 0.5 μg/mL to increase the probability of detecting E. coli with low susceptibility to third-generation cephalosporins and quinolones, respectively. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed using the disk diffusion test. Among 540 NTS E. coli isolates, resistance to tetracycline was the most frequently observed (35.6%), followed by resistance to ampicillin (19.6%) and streptomycin (16.5%). Percentages of NTS E. coli resistant to all three antibiotics and percentages of multidrug-resistant strains were higher in isolates from poultry. All isolated Salmonella were susceptible to all antibiotics. The sample-level prevalence for resistance to third-generation cephalosporins was estimated at 35.6% with all third-generation cephalosporin-resistant E. coli, expressing an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase phenotype. The sample-level prevalence for quinolone resistance was estimated at 48.3%. These results provided a baseline for future research and the development of integrated surveillance initiatives.Marine cone snails are predatory gastropods characterized by a well-developed venom apparatus and highly evolved hunting strategies that utilize toxins to paralyze prey and defend against predators. The venom of each species of cone snail has a large number of pharmacologically active peptides known as conopeptides or conotoxins that are usually unique in each species. Nevertheless, venoms of only very few species have been characterized so far by transcriptomic approaches. In this study, we used transcriptome sequencing technologies and mass spectrometric methods to describe the diversity of venom components expressed by a worm-hunting species, Conus bayani. A total of 82 conotoxin sequences were retrieved from transcriptomic data that contain 54 validated conotoxin sequences clustered into 21 gene superfamilies including divergent gene family, 17 sequences clustered to 6 different conotoxin classes, and 11 conotoxins classified as unassigned gene family. Seven new conotoxin sequences showed unusual cysteine patterns. We were also able to identify 19 peptide sequences using mass spectrometry that completely overlapped with the conotoxin sequences obtained from transcriptome analysis. Importantly, herein we document the presence of 16 proteins that include five post-translational modifying enzymes obtained from transcriptomic data. Our results revealed diverse and novel conopeptides of an unexplored species that could be used extensively in biomedical research due to their therapeutic potentials.We conducted a multicenter, retrospective study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination nivolumab plus ipilimumab (NIVO+IPI) in 35 patients with advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). In this study, we focused on patients who received NIVO+IPI and were stratified into intermediate- or poor-risk disease according to the International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium model at five institutions in Japan. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Secondary endpoints were disease control rate (DCR), best overall response (BOR), objective response rate (ORR), and progression-free survival (PFS). In addition, we evaluated the role of inflammatory cell ratios, namely neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), as predictive biomarkers in patients with mRCC. The median follow-up period was 1 year, and the 1-year OS rate was 95.8%. The ORR and DCR were 34.3% and 80.0%, respectively. According to BOR, four patients (11.4%) achieved complete response. According to NLR stratification, the 1-year PFS rates were 82.6% and 23.7% when the NLR was ≤4.6 and >4.6, respectively (p = 0.04). Based on PLR stratification, the 1-year PFS rates were 81.7% and 34.3% when the PLR was ≤188.1 and >188.1, respectively (p = 0.033). Although 71.4% of the patients experienced treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) with NIVO+IPI, only four patients discontinued NIVO+IPI due to grade 3/4 TRAEs. Patients treated with NIVO+IPI as a first-line therapy for advanced or mRCC achieved relatively better oncological outcomes. Therefore, NIVO+IPI may have potential advantages and may lead to a treatment effect compared to those receiving targeted therapies. In addition, PLR >188.1 may be a useful predictive marker for mRCC patients who received NIVO+IPI.To identify gender- and age-related associations between adult dental checkups and unmet dental care needs, we analyzed data of 14,000 participants, from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2018). Data were collected via self-report questionnaires and interviews. The complex sample chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that 31.7% of participants had unmet dental care needs. Within the previous 12 months, 56.5% did not undertake dental checkups, and 29.3% did not use a dental service. Odds ratios (ORs) of the unmet dental needs were 8.87 (confidence interval (CI) = 7.80-10.09, p less then 0.001) for those who did not use dental services and 1.28 (CI = 1.13-1.44, p less then 0.001) for those who did not have dental checkups. Significant age-dependent associations between those not receiving dental checkups and the rate of unmet dental care included men and women aged 50-59 years and women ≥70 years. However, unmet dental care needs for men aged ≥70 years not undergoing dental checkups were not statistically significant (p = 0.
